Algernon's Terrain Sampler Lib

Algernon's Terrain Sampler Lib

Algernon's Terrain Sampler Lib is a Vintage Story mod by Algernon. Algernon's Terrain Sampler Lib is a library for reading generated terrain data at any world coordinate, even before chunks load.

Why this mod is worth installing

This dependency is useful for mod developers building terrain-aware maps, roads, rivers, pathfinding, structures, or other systems that need world data without loading distant chunks.

What Algernon's Terrain Sampler Lib adds

The library samples the generated height of a terrain column from its X and Z coordinates. It can query locations far from the player, provided they remain inside the world boundary, and does not require the target chunk to have been created or loaded.

Additional sampling covers rainfall, temperature, geological activity, forest density, and shrub density. The included commands let you test column height or the broader terrain sample directly in-game.

This is a developer-facing library rather than a player content mod. Other mods can use its exposed sampler through reflection to make features respond to the underlying terrain and climate data.

Possible uses include terrain-following roads and paths, believable rivers and ponds, erosion or groundwater systems, climate-aware snow and fog, and more convincing placement of settlements or ruins.
