BetterProspecting is a Vintage Story mod by JohnVintageStory and DetPikachu. BetterProspecting makes ore prospecting in Vintage Story less tedious with extra reading modes, adjustable ranges, sorting, directions, and optional map markers.

What BetterProspecting adds
BetterProspecting expands the familiar prospecting workflow with several selectable output styles. Density can remain close to the vanilla method or be simplified to use one sampled block, while Node preserves the standard node-oriented reading. Rock reports the nearest distance to each rock type, Column lists ores through the vertical world range, and Distance shows the nearest deposits by ore type.
Quantity builds on the vanilla node approach with a longer reach and additional options. Distance and Quantity each come in short, medium, and long-range forms, so the amount of information can match the scale of the search rather than overwhelming every reading.
The mod is designed for flexible multiplayer use. Modes can be enabled or hidden individually, results can be sorted by distance or quantity, and readings may include a direction when the server permits it. Long-range Column, Distance, and Quantity samples can also place a map marker, helping players return to promising locations. Configuration changes are synchronized without restarting the world or server when the optional configuration integration is available.
