Biomes is a Vintage Story mod by Crabb, Hydromancerx and actioninja. Biomes divides the world into large ecological regions, limiting wild plants and animals to suitable native biome pools.

Why this mod is worth installing
This mod suits players who want travel to reveal noticeably different flora and fauna. It works best alongside mods that add more plants, creatures, and world-generation content.
What Biomes adds
Biomes overlays the generated world with very large ecological regions. Each region has its own permitted pool of wild plants and animals, while normal spawn rules such as temperature and moisture still decide whether a candidate can appear.
The system is intended to make expeditions more meaningful: a species absent near home may become common much farther away. These areas are broad rather than small, sharply separated Minecraft-style patches, so reaching another biome can require a substantial journey.
Story-related mobs remain available, and player-planted trees can grow beyond their native region. The mod does not reshape terrain or control spawn frequency; it narrows which flora and fauna are eligible to appear.
A fresh world is strongly required because the regional rules are part of world generation. The base game's limited selection can make regions feel sparse on its own, so combining Biomes with content-rich flora and creature mods is recommended.
