Bola is a Vintage Story mod by Centur1on. Bola adds a primitive thrown weapon that entangles eligible creatures, holding them in place for 20 seconds and enabling rope-based dragging.
Why this mod is worth installing
Useful for players who need to stop small or medium creatures during hunting, capture, transport, or dismounting situations. It is not a universal restraint: large, mechanical, and corrupted creatures resist it.
What Bola adds
Throwing a Bola at a valid creature roots it for 20 seconds. The target cannot be mounted during this time, and striking a rider or their mount can force the rider to dismount. Players caught by the weapon can free themselves by selecting an empty hotbar slot and using the primary action.
A missed throw breaks on the ground and leaves two to four ropes. Against an immune target, it leaves one or two ropes instead. A Bola that successfully catches a creature is not recovered, while sneaking and attacking with an empty hotbar slot removes the restraint.
A restrained creature can be attached to a rope, extending the immobilization to 80 seconds so it can be dragged. Some baby creatures and suitable trappable animals may also be placed in a reed chest, although creature size and behavior determine whether this is possible.
