What Craftable Cartography Fork adds
The modification removes direct access to the map, coordinates and cardinal directions. A compass provides orientation, while a sextant is used to work out position, making navigation dependent on equipment carried by the player.
Compasses must be held in the active hand or off-hand to function. The primitive compass is inexpensive, uses iron-bearing ore for its needle, shows directions and degrees, and can also be placed on the floor or a shelf.
The temporal compass combines directional readings with coordinates and keeps its values stable instead of fluctuating. It uses more advanced components, can reveal coordinates on the map while held, and can stand on the floor as a full-block object.
Sextant readings depend on conditions: the sun must be accessible and bright enough, and rain prevents calculation. The map no longer reveals elk locations or lets simple interface actions expose the player's position, while the map itself can be displayed as a floor, shelf or scroll-stand object.
