Craftable Companion is a Vintage Story mod by Pal_5000. Craft a Mechanical Companion that follows you, carries 12 storage slots, provides light, and supports tools, cookware, locks, and metal customization.

Why this mod is worth installing
This mod suits explorers, builders, and multiplayer groups that need a dependable portable container without turning a companion into a combat pet. It is especially useful when carrying supplies between distant bases.
What Craftable Companion adds
Craftable Companion adds a Mechanical Companion inspired by an unused vanilla mechhelper entity. It behaves as a patient follower rather than a guard: Shift + right-click switches between following and waiting, and a waiting companion stays where you leave it. With 50 health and no combat role, it is mainly a mobile utility partner.
The companion has 12 internal storage slots and can be secured with a padlock in multiplayer, limiting normal access to its owner. It can also carry selected attachments, including bowls, cooking pots, food crocks, weapons, and common tools. A companion appears on the world map, so it is easier to locate after a long journey.
A separate interaction toggles its built-in light, while a tuning spear or wrench can repair a damaged unit. If the body is destroyed, its inventory remains available until the wreck disappears, so recovering it quickly matters. The companion can also be picked up with its contents and data intact when the owner has an empty backpack slot.
The final plank type used in crafting determines the companion's main appearance, while a rear material slot lets you replace its copper finish with another metal. Only one Mechanical Companion can be bonded to a player at once, although a Locust can accompany the same player separately. Clockmakers receive cheaper recipes that avoid the Jonas Sub-Assemblies.
