Desire Paths is a Vintage Story mod by Desolation. Desire Paths creates natural dirt trails where you repeatedly walk, tramples tall grass, and lets abandoned paths gradually return to grass.

This mod suits players who want settlements and travel routes to react visibly to everyday movement. It is especially useful for a more immersive, lived-in landscape without manually placing paths.
What Desire Paths adds
Walking over the same ground gradually forms a dirt trail. Tall grass is first shortened and then removed, while the soil records seven levels of grass coverage to show how heavily the route has been used.
The more trampled the path becomes, the larger its movement-speed bonus. Snow is compressed to a thin layer in winter, while the soil beneath it cannot be worn below a defined minimum.
When a route is no longer used, its soil slowly regains grass in stages and eventually blends back into the surrounding terrain. The behavior can be adjusted to match different playstyles, with support for Terrain Slabs.
