Downed is a Vintage Story mod by SiiMeR. Downed replaces instant death with a vulnerable survival state: crawl, bleed out, get revived, dragged, carried on an elk, or executed.
Why this mod is worth installing
Useful for multiplayer servers focused on realism, roleplay, and tense rescues. It gives allies time to save a fallen player while leaving enemies the option to finish the encounter.
What Downed adds
At zero health, the character falls into a protected downed state instead of dying immediately. Movement is reduced to a slow crawl, attacks and item use are unavailable, a bleed-out timer is shown, and a blood trail marks the route. You can also give up early; navigation aids such as the map, minimap, and coordinates may be hidden during this state.
Other players can restore you with poultices, bandages, or compatible healing items. They can drag your body with empty hands, pull you away from danger, or stow you on an elk when its back slot is free.
The darker option is execution: a player holding a weapon can trigger a short finishing action that sprays blood nearby. Blood trails and splashes can remain on blocks for a configurable period, while a watering can lets you clean blood from yourself.
An optional passing-out system replaces final death with temporary unconsciousness. During it, movement, chat, hearing, and selected audio can be disabled; health gradually recovers, while other players can still heal, drag, or execute the unconscious character.
Hold the give-up key to end the downed state early; the default shortcut is Ctrl + Shift + G. While downed, the map, minimap, and coordinates can be hidden.

Reviving
Use a poultice, bandage, or another compatible healing item on a downed player to bring them back to their feet.

Dragging
Hold RMB with empty hands to drag a downed player, then release it to stop. A body can also be stowed on an elk if its back slot is empty.

Executing
With a weapon equipped, hold Shift + E on a downed player to perform an execution. The animation can scatter blood onto nearby surfaces, and decals are cleaned up after a configurable time.

Passing out
When enabled, bleeding out causes temporary unconsciousness instead of immediate death. The player cannot move or communicate during the blackout, while the duration, audio effects, and recovery behavior can be configured.

When passing out is enabled, the mod can ask other systems whether a bleeding-out player should truly die. This supports external life-count or PvE/PvP death rules.
