Why this mod is worth installing
It is mainly needed by other mods that rely on its materials and recipes, but it also offers useful standalone crafting and world-generation additions.
What Expanded Matter adds
Expanded Matter is primarily a shared library for mods such as Bricklayers, Valley of Ashes, and Tailor's Delight. On its own, it expands the material system with crushed and powdered ores, additional liquids, sulfates, lyes, mercury, iodine, and picric acid.
New recipes let you process stones and ores into powders, create dyes from dry powders, and use a wider range of minerals as pigments for signs and chests. Existing resources such as kernite, chromite, corundum, and sulfates receive additional purposes.
The mod also introduces small gameplay conveniences: coke lasts longer in fires and forges, powdered iron can gradually turn into iron oxide, and crushed flint can be calcined through an alternative, more efficient process. Optional saltpeter brine supports pickling when enabled through the relevant configuration tools.
Some rare materials can appear through panning or loot, while selected ores receive world-generation changes. Newly generated deposits only appear in unexplored chunks, so existing areas will not be retroactively filled.
