Improved Metallurgy

Improved Metallurgy

Improved Metallurgy is a Vintage Story mod by TheMadTesla. Improved Metallurgy adds advanced alloys, a multiblock blast furnace, automated metal runners, and deep-ocean ore nodules for large-scale smelting.

Why this mod is worth installing

This mod suits players who want to move beyond bloomery and cementation-furnace production toward industrial-scale metallurgy. It is especially useful for server blacksmiths handling large batches of metal.

What Improved Metallurgy adds

The main addition is a multiblock blast furnace for mass-smelting. Bellows can drive it above the normal fuel temperature, but each refractory-brick tier has a safe limit, so overheating may damage the structure. Lime flux is required, and slag must be tapped into a barrel; once cooled and crushed, it can serve as fertilizer.

Improved Metallurgy introduces tool steel, Hadfield steel, and inconel. They occupy different points in the progression: tool steel is a practical upgrade, Hadfield steel favors durability at a lower cost, while inconel offers the strongest overall tool performance but demands expensive materials and top-tier refractory bricks.

Runners can direct molten metal into neighboring valid molds or other runners, making batch casting much faster. Some metal must remain in the system to maintain flow, and cooled residue can be recovered as nuggets with a hammer and chisel.

Ore-rich nodules appear deep beneath the ocean and supply materials for the new alloys. Their spawn depth is adjustable, and the mod also provides commands for enabling the added metals or changing blast-furnace speed.
