What Soap and Lye adds
Burn logs to obtain wood ash, with hardwoods providing a better yield. Combining ash with water in a barrel creates liquid lye, which can supplement limewater when soaking hides.
Soap production starts with fat and liquid lye in a barrel. The resulting lye bars can be turned into liquid soap or combined with honey to make a more efficient honey soap.
Liquid soap removes mordant from cloth, dyes from cloth and leather, and grime from dirty cooking pots. The mod also lets you heat water and ash in a cooking pot to produce vanilla potash fertilizer.
A dedicated in-game guide explains the recipes and progression. Soap bars are designed for compact storage, while the added hide recipes extend the alternative soaking method to bear hides.

🪵 Wood ash
This view presents wood ash as the first step of the process. Ash from logs can be mixed with water in a barrel to make liquid lye.

Liquid lye supports hide soaking and is used with fat to create soap bars. The same bars can become liquid soap or be scented with honey.
