Salty´s Manual: Firestarter is a Vintage Story mod by SaltyWater. Salty’s Manual: Firestarter replaces random ignition with a hand-drill minigame where alternating clicks build heat before lighting a fire.
Why this mod is worth installing
Choose this mod if you want fire making in Vintage Story to feel more deliberate and skill-based. It suits players who prefer a hands-on task over vanilla randomness.
What Salty´s Manual: Firestarter adds
The firestarter no longer ignites a target through an automatic random roll. First place dry grass as tinder, then use the firestarter on it to begin preparing a hand drill. A heat meter appears on the right side of the screen.
During the minigame, alternate left- and right-clicks quickly to raise the heat. When the meter is full, the heated tinder can be carried to a firepit, oven, or another block that accepts ignition.
The firestarter recipe is reduced to two sticks, and its appearance, name, description, and help text are adjusted to match the new mechanic. Moving the hot tinder to another inventory slot discards it, so keep it selected until you light the target.
Preparing dry grass as tinder
Dry grass is placed on the ground and activated with a firestarter to begin the manual ignition process.

Starting the hand-drill minigame
The character prepares the sticks while the heat meter appears on the right. Alternate left- and right-clicks to generate heat.

Using heated tinder to light a block
Once the heat meter is full, the firestarter produces hot tinder. Carry it to a firepit, oven, or another ignitable block and right-click to light it.
Keep hot tinder in the selected slot
Changing inventory slots while holding hot tinder discards it, so keep the tinder selected until the fire is lit.
