Mechanical Block Retention is a Vintage Story mod by Rythillian. Mechanical Block Retention makes chutes, axles, and Archimedes screws count as solid, helping rooms remain enclosed around mechanical passages.

Why this mod is worth installing
Useful for workshops and homes where mechanical parts cross walls or ceilings and otherwise break room detection, leaving blacksmiths exposed to cold.
What Mechanical Block Retention adds
This small tweak changes the solidity of standard mechanical passage blocks rather than adding new content. Chutes, chute crossings, straight and T-shaped chutes, axles, and both Archimedes screw variants are treated as solid on their sides.
That lets a room remain enclosed when a chute or axle passes through a wall or ceiling. It is especially helpful in winter, when a workshop can otherwise fail room detection and lose its protected interior conditions.
The mod is designed as a lightweight, block-property change: it does not introduce replacement blocks or alter the machinery itself. Because it adds no blocks, it can be used as a convenient toggle during an existing playthrough.
