Metal Recycling is a Vintage Story mod by ilan. Metal Recycling gives you a chance to recover metal bits when splitting forged work items, reducing waste during smithing.
Why this mod is worth installing
This mod suits smiths who want failed splits and leftover metal to remain useful. It is especially helpful in resource-conscious playthroughs where every ingot matters.
What Metal Recycling adds
When you split a metal work item on the anvil, the mod can return a metal bit. The default first-recovery chance is 50%, so recycling is helpful without making every split completely lossless.
Each successfully recovered bit lowers the chance of the next one, creating diminishing returns. A work item also has a default recovery limit, keeping the feature from producing unlimited material.
Iron blooms can be included in the recycling behavior. Recovered bits may inherit the source work item's temperature, which makes them fit more naturally into ongoing hot-metal work.
The mod also accounts for bits recovered during splitting when chiseling unfinished work items. This prevents the same material from being effectively counted twice and keeps the total return balanced.
