More mead options introduces two ways to prepare a mead base. Boiling honey with water produces a faster-fermenting boiled mead, while combining honeycomb and water in a barrel creates a set base with better flavor and aging potential.
After preparing a base, you can add mashed fruit to make fruit meads. The resulting drinks can follow different finishing paths: boiled mead may be treated with powdered charcoal to improve its keeping quality, while set mead can be aged in suitable storage for exceptionally long preservation.
Every mead can also be distilled into a stronger alcoholic drink. This gives honey production a progression from raw ingredients through fermentation and maturation to concentrated spirits.
