What Novelty! adds
Novelty assigns foods to groups and reduces a group’s freshness as you keep eating it. Trying different foods restores those groups and fills a separate novelty bar, which slowly fades with time and loses part of its progress after death.
A high bar can improve attack damage and mining speed, with default maximums of 35% and 20%. The system is configurable, so the strength, decay, death penalty, and food-related values can be adjusted for a gentler or more demanding survival experience.
The grouping system can recognize ingredients from item names and can be refined for unusual foods, drinks, or modded recipes. This is useful for keeping related products together while giving special meals such as pies and wine their own extra variety.
