Better Scrap is a Vintage Story mod by GamerProLC. Better Scrap gives cave-found metal scraps new weapons, tools, armor, storage, lighting and building uses, plus more rewarding underground loot.
Why this mod is worth installing
This mod suits players who want cave trips to be more self-sufficient and metal scraps to matter before advanced metallurgy. It also expands Jonas-related progression, but can make early combat and armor notably stronger.
What Better Scrap adds
Metal scraps become a practical emergency resource underground. You can turn them into a low-durability scrap pick and shovel, a long-reach pike, a throwable glaive, and two bladed weapons: the fragile Scrimatar and the sturdier Scramberge.
The mod adds several armor paths. Corroded and Rusted Bulwark sets provide progressively heavier protection, while the Ranger set improves movement, accuracy and charge time. The Enhanced Mobility set uses Jonas components and gains a helmet that preserves the night vision function of its crafting device.
Cave logistics also improve through an external-frame backpack, climbable scrap scaffolds, permanent scrap torch holders and survival-obtainable scrap blocks. Pliers, mandrels and chain links offer an alternate chainmail route that avoids direct smithing and uses ingots efficiently.
Drifters, Bowtorn, Shiver and dangerous corrupted creatures can provide more useful rewards, including increased linen and additional Jonas parts. This makes cave exploration and monster hunting more worthwhile, while also making powerful equipment available earlier.
