What Soap and Lye: Bloom and Lather adds
The mod introduces a complete soap-making chain. Burn logs for wood ash, combine it with water in a barrel to obtain liquid lye, then mix lye with fat or shea butter to create soap bars. Bars can be turned into liquid soap or scented with flower and herb oils or honey.
Liquid soap provides practical alternatives during leather and textile work: it can replace limewater when soaking hides, remove mordant and dyes from cloth or leather, and clean dirty cooking pots. Scented versions use fewer resources for dye removal, while selected scented soaps can improve poultice healing.
Shea trees appear in warmer regions, giving access to shea fruits and butter without relying on animal fat. Five crops—chamomile, hibiscus, lavender, calendula, and mint—supply flowers and herbs for oils, dyes, cooking, tea, candles, and other recipes; wood ash can also be heated with water to make potash fertilizer.

🪵 Wood ash
Burn logs to obtain wood ash, with hardwoods producing more. Combine the ash with water in a barrel to make liquid lye.
🫙 Liquid lye and soap bars
Liquid lye helps soak hides and is the key ingredient for soap bars. Bars use fat or shea butter, can be stacked in large ground piles, and can be processed or scented.
🧴 Liquid soap
Liquid soap removes mordant and dyes from cloth or leather and cleans dirty cooking pots. Scented versions reduce the cost of dye removal.
🩹 Soap-treated poultices
Certain scented soaps can be used to treat poultices and improve their healing effect.
🕯️ Scented candles and shea trees
Flower or herb oils turn regular candles into scented candles, which work normally but cannot be placed in chandeliers. Shea trees in hot climates provide fruits for butter used in soap and other recipes.
🌺 Flowers and herbs
Chamomile, hibiscus, lavender, calendula, and mint grow as new crops. Their flowers and herbs support oils, dyes, cooking, and tea recipes, with harvesting details shown in tooltips.
