Sticky Dirt

Sticky Dirt

Sticky Dirt is a Vintage Story mod by Cirne. Sticky Dirt makes eligible soil blocks less likely to collapse when soil instability is enabled, using nearby blocks, plants, and support beams as reinforcement.

Why this mod is worth installing

This mod is useful for players who dig rooms, tunnels, or hillside shelters but want surrounding dirt to remain in place instead of collapsing immediately.

What Sticky Dirt adds

When a soil block is disturbed, Sticky Dirt checks the six surrounding faces and assigns support points. Solid neighboring faces contribute support, while a plant growing from the top adds extra reinforcement through its roots.

Support beams can also stabilize a dirt block when they touch the correct face and approach it at a suitable angle. Bottom-facing beams provide the most support, horizontal beams provide less, and beams cannot reinforce the top face.

A qualifying block needs at least seven support points to avoid falling, either straight down or sideways. The system applies only to unstable soil blocks that can fall sideways but do not have the high sideways-fall chance associated with materials such as sand or gravel.

The mod also addresses a Vintage Story support-beam data issue that could leave beam information incorrect after saving and reloading. It is still experimental, so important survival structures should receive a more dependable lining such as packed dirt.
