String Sense

String Sense

String Sense is a Vintage Story mod by Averixus. String Sense overhauls early string technology with distinct cord, twine, and rope, plus colourful woven baskets and mats.

Why this mod is worth installing

This mod suits players who want string materials to matter more, recipes to follow believable material differences, and early survival to require more planning.

What String Sense adds

String Sense introduces three material grades with different purposes. Cord is a coarse twisted fibre for basic tools, primitive equipment, baskets, and mats; twine is finer and more carefully processed for cloth, clothing, and precise fastenings; rope combines several strands into a strong material for heavy construction and equipment.

The revised progression makes natural fibres an important early resource. Cord supports primitive tools, armour, and storage, while rope is needed for demanding wooden structures such as fences and doors. Later, refined fibres and twine open more advanced crafting options, while some heavy-duty uses still depend on rope.

Hay and straw are separated both visually and functionally. Hay comes from long grass and serves as animal feed, bedding, fire-starting material, and a component of primitive beds and bales. Straw comes from mature grain and suitable wild plants, and is used for cord, thatch, cob, and other basic construction.

The mod also expands woven decoration with baskets and mats made from additional cord materials, allowing more colour and variety in settlements. Its settings can preserve the deeper progression or focus mainly on the new decorative variants.
