Thievery

Thievery

Thievery is a Vintage Story mod by Chronolegionaire. Thievery replaces simple reinforced-block access with paired keys, lockpicking, reusable lock patterns, and locked ruins.

Why this mod is worth installing

Useful for servers that want stronger base security, physical keys, and optional stealthy ways to enter protected buildings or ruins.

What Thievery adds

Thievery expands the vanilla reinforcement system with metal keys. A newly forged key can be paired with a reinforced, padlocked block by its owner or an authorized group member, then used to lock and unlock it. Keys can be renamed, duplicated through clay key pressings and fired molds, and kept as spares for access to a base.

The locktool lets authorized players copy a lock pattern from one block and apply it to another, making it practical to use one key across several doors or containers. For unauthorized entry, the mod adds lockpicks and tension wrenches; these wear down during use, while tougher padlocks take longer to defeat. Access to lockpicking can be restricted to selected traits.

World generation can place locked doors and containers in ruins, with an option to reinforce parts of those structures as well. This turns exploration into a choice between finding a key, searching for a weak point, or attempting a lockpick.

The mod also includes optional multiplayer theft mechanics: a suitable character can sneak behind another player and attempt to take an item from their backpack. Server settings can control lockpicking, tool wear, trait requirements, land-claim protection, owner bypasses, and the chance of detecting a failed pickpocket attempt.
