What xmelee adds
xmelee introduces several specialized weapons, including rapiers, messers, maces, longswords, zweihanders, spears, halberds, and pikes. They differ in reach, damage, movement penalty, and attack timing, so choosing a weapon affects how you approach a fight.
Combat is built around timing. Left click begins an attack, while right click starts a parry; each action has a preparation phase, an active window, and a recovery period. Damage is dealt only during the weapon's attack window, and attacks connect with enemies you are looking at during the swing.
A correctly timed parry blocks incoming melee attacks, including attacks from behind, because the system does not use directional parry detection. A successful block briefly stuns the attacker and stops them from attacking or parrying during the stun.
Shield use depends on the weapon. Spears can attack while a shield is equipped but cannot parry, while several heavy weapons cannot attack or parry with a shield in the off hand. This creates distinct combinations for reach, defense, and mobility.
